Council approves agreement to save First Christian from demolition

Historic preservation advocates grew concerned several months ago that First Christian’s iconic domed sanctuary could be torn down by new owners.

The Oklahoma City Council on Tuesday approved an agreement bestowing a reprieve from demolition on First Christian Church.

Historic preservation advocates grew concerned several months ago that First Christian’s iconic domed sanctuary could be torn down by new owners.

First Christian’s dwindling congregation reportedly had been trying to sell the 31.8-acre property at 3700 N Walker Ave., just off Interstate 235.
