JPMorgan Chase Profit Declines 7 Percent

JPMorgan Chase reported an unexpected drop in profit, to $4.9 billion, or $1.19 a share, during a sluggish fourth quarter.

Some miners of the virtual currency are starting to feel the effects of a sustained decline in prices.

The chief marketing officer of Ryanair, which is the largest shareholder of Aer Lingus, told reporters on Tuesday that Ryanair’s board had not been approached by I.A.G. about a revised offer for Aer Lingus but that it would be prepared to consider an offer between €2.50 and €2.70 a share.

The big insurer said Tuesday that it would file suit to fight its designation as “systemically important,” becoming the first financial company to go to court since the government started singling out too-big-to-fail institutions for special oversight.

The hedge fund had advocated for the breakup of the data storage giant but agreed to expanding the board to 13 members and will vote in favor of EMC’s entire slate of director nominees.

International Consolidated Airlines Group confirmed late Friday that the Irish airline’s board rejected a revised takeover bid.

The Irish drug maker Shire is paying a premium for NPS Pharmaceuticals, which is based in New Jersey, as part of its effort to recover from its botched sale to AbbVie last year.
